Hollow Swedes

ColinAColinA Posts: 392

Hello

This year for the first time I have had a problem with hollow swedes some are black inside while others are soft and rotten, in all cases the leaves have been healthy.

I always grow the variety Marion and have not had this problem in ten years, Last year I took over a larger allotment, could the problem be soil born?

Any advice welcome

I think it's probably down to too much water .... presumably you've had the same warm wet autumn/winter that we've had  image

Yes we have had our share but not as much as the poor people in some parts of the country.

Ironically when they germinated I had to water every day as they struggled with the bed drying out too fast.

    Thanks for the info

IMO this is one vegetable that is better grown in a field by a farmer. Notwithstanding that you have had success in the past. They are very susceptible to lack of trace elements.
