Andrew the one to the right on my pic is a jack o lantern as well.. I have never harvested them early allow them to colour up otherwise the flesh inside will not be ripe so no don't treat them like courgettes. You can remove foliage I have in the past but I have to say I'm not sure it made much differance... Pumpkins are about patience think on they are normally harvested in October so they have plenty of time yet plus the leaves extend to die off and the fruit tends to ripen on the stem.... This is in my past experience any way......
I did not cut out the growing tips of crown prince, l have 1 large fruit per plant the largest about 12-15 inches across. Can l cut them back substantially as well as taking out the males, as when any females do developed they soon die off.
I was wondering if this would enable all energy to go to any fruits that may also develop rather than into a great deal of foliage, or is it too late in the season.
The stems/storks have started to appear cracked and l read somewhere that this is the time to remove they them. Suggestion in an earlier message says its best to leave them until October. Not sure what to do.
I think its a waiting game. Wait until the leaves die off of their own accord. Pinch the tips out and any new flowers as they wont have time to grow fruit now.
