Lantana grown as standard
in Plants
We've grown Lantanas as bushes for a few years, having first come across them in Tenerife. We also remember seeing a very large Lantana standard in a garden centre years ago and would love to try one ourselves. Jim at Beechgrove has started one but I can't find the programme that it was on.
Has anyone grown a standard Lantana - I'd be grateful for any hints, advice etc.

I would imagine it is very similar to growing a standard fuchsia - Choose a strong straight, upright growing cutting, support it wih a cane, grow on with suitable feed till it reaches desired height, removing side shoots as it grows. Once tall enough pinch out the tip to encourage new shoots, let these grow a bit then pinch them off too, till you get a bushy head. I have a standard lantana, though I splashed out and bought it ready done, have never seen anything as exotic as lantana on sale anywhere round here before. I am having a go at a standard fuchsia though and that has been fairly successful so far, should find out this summer just how well!
Cheers! Good luck with your fuchsia and I will report progress regarding the Lantana on here in due course.
I'm growing it from seed so it will be a while yet!
