Digging with a shovel?? Spade is easier.
  • Its not really for digging it for genral use like clearing up . Moving compist I like good quality wooden handle tools I find the feel is good . I even have the old push lawn mowers (I started with one but have many now as i buy them if local they are just quality workmanship that I appreciate you kust dont get that now )
  • Many thanks pansyface
  • BTW a good Spades article in GW magazine 'On Test', pages 64-65 in January 2016 issue, but only one pointed edge shovel and no square blade shovels tested. I am still waiting for a Lurgan shovel - as Santa forgot mine even though I have been a good girl : (

    .

Forget stainless, a good quality carbon steel shovel (high price) is far superior to any stainless one, I bought one a few years ago, it is sharp and as it is cleaned and oiled after use it is very clean!

I have two carbon steel spades, with use they are razor sharp, I also have two stainless ones (presents) one cheap, one dearer, they look good but are fairly useless, as they cannot be sharpened even by use!

The stainless ones are left in the shed on the allotment, if they get nicked, too bad, but I take the ordinary ones home with me!
