Newbie Question on Moss

  • Again, thank you.  I have an electric scarifier so based on what you say above I think I will wait until the lawn is dry enough and give it a scarify, experimenting with the blade heights.  I also think a good aeration is going to be key for me - so roll on the dryer weather.

  • Moved to new house last year and year before sorted the lawn in the old house as well. From my experience, if you have got moss then it may due to excess moisture and lack of yearly maintenance. I do scarify my lawn in spring and autumn to remove all the moss. This year, i also thatched the lawn using hollow thatching fork and results were great. If you carry on this activity for atleast two years with regular mowing and feeding, you should be alright. One thing to avoid is to keep the cutting height very low as it would create bare patches and encourage the moss. I have got the clay soil on which thatching and adding bit of compost works really fine.

Best of luck with the job.
