What tree/shrub is this?

Can anyone identify this tree/shrub for me please? It has appeared on it's own over the last few months and is now about 3ft high. if it is a large tree i would like to remove it now before it gets too big and too close to the boundary wall. Thanks.

Not sure what it is, it looks a bit like the sweet chestnut saplings we get at work from the chestnuts buried by the squirrels and jays, but I don't think the bark is right.

Anyway, I'd bet my boots it's potentially a very large tree - hoik it out now!!!

Thank dove and addict. I've searched on google and it does look like a beech tree. Not aware of anything nearby. Perhaps the wind or a bird dropped it there. I'll better get it out this weekend then. thanks for your advice.
