borage- & black fly

what is relationship between ants & blackfly..are ants hopefully eating them or is it for sugar from them..if its for sugar then I`ll have to go out & be brutal as plants are dying because overrun with the blighters...

    The ants "farm" the blackfly and take honeydew off them.  If you want the borage flowers you may have to be brutal.

    ah, my thoughts were right then...as I sat watching them the ants were just running up/down..... so am afraid tonight got my gloves on & did alot of squishing...pulled one plant out that died through blk fly...tomorrow have to cut right back lupins as covered in green fly...leaves are sticky etc...where are the ladybirds...image

    you lucky thing..I have in last cple days actually seen two in my garden...hubby cut lupins right down due to green fly & sticky sap etc.. in bin now & gone ...image

    Bit drastic cutting the lupins right down, couldnt you spray them with soapy water.

    Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
