Can you identify this?

Hi there, I'm looking for some help. I should mention I am not very green fingered. However when my mother passed one of the things I inhertied from her was this small plant/tree. It probably isnt special in any way other than it has great sentimental value to me. It has started to produce brown leaves that have started falling off and I am worried it is dying somehow. Firstly is anybody able to identy to me what this plant is. As I have said I have very limited knowledge. Secondly any ideas what might be causing the browing and falling out of leaves. I have tried to keep the soil in the pot to the consistency of a wrung out sponge. Its not dry and its not saturated either. I undfortunately dont get south facing light but it sits with  north west window brightness for as long as the day produces it. It iss kept in doors in and around 14-23 degrees celcius.

Any help would be grateful

Regards

It looks like a dracaena. It may be in too dry as atmosphere. Is it near a radiator?  You can increase humidity by giving it a spray of rain water or distilled water. It could probably do with a bit of feed such as baby bio for indoor plants too, although it shouldn't need much in Winter.
