how to rid cabbages of leaf curling infestation

New to the veg growing game and loving it but and only just noticed leaves at heart of cabbages are being curled up by resident white fly looking flies - millions of them. Normally squash these between fingers but I'm damaging leaves - any solution I can use that's effective but not chemically based?

You could try spraying with liquid soap solution, I've used that for aphids.
