Is it ok to use fallen pine needles as mulch

Good evening all I am helping my sister-in-law manage her half acre garden. She has many pine trees which have a lovely soft carpet below- years of fallen pine needles which have rotted down. Can I use this as mulch on other boarders? Thank you

  • I know, but some of the areas are really neglected, compacted soil, mossy. I thought I might dig over the areas, to loosen soil, then incorporate some of the lovely mulch. A

    I have lots of Hellebore seedlings which I will put in, also Pulmonaria, as I have loads.

    The area is shaded due to large trees, my sis has been using topsoil over the past few years, but I think the soil needs conditioning.

  • Hi Verdun, I have re read your reply, didn't read correctly first time- avoid Hellebores!
