HELP! Something is growing on the terracotta Pot!

Hello All,

I have transferred my little avocado plant onto a new terracotta pot (that I have washed and scrubbed before planting) a few days ago.  Now, after its been planted I found this white mildew-like growth all over the pot.

Does anybody know what this is?

And how can I remedy the situation?

Looking forward to your responses!

Thank you Pansyface!  It makes sense now that I think about it.

    Have a nice day!

I can confirm what pansyface says. Big old terracotta pots in gardens often have that white deposit on them. A lot of people like them like that, gives them an antique character look.

There was a thread about this a couple of weeks ago - which I can't seem to find now - in which we concluded the same.  BUT this looks different image

  • I think it looks different because it's 'new' - as it spreads it will look more like the weathered pots.

    Hello Edd!

I have been meaning to trim the stem down based on the 12 inch rule, however, I have been procrastinating it, as it is a scary thing to do for a beginner planter!

I will go ahead and do that today!

Thanks again for your continued support! Much appreciated!
