Aubergine leaves dry and crumbling

I have 6 Aubergine plants in buckets on my landing in the window all are doing well and then this weekend the middle one ( the largest) seemed to just fade away all the leaves are like dried pressed green leaves just crumble like old parchment.
Stem seems strong seems firmly rooted just the leaves have crumbled they have notlost any colour it is like leaves when you press and dry them all the other plants seem fine.
Any ideaS ?

Could the holes in the bottom of the bucket have become blocked? That would cause waterlogging and the plant would quickly die as the roots would literally drown.
