Hi
I am growing dwarf french beans in a trough.
The leaves are being eaten big time by I know not what. Their are no slug or snail trails so what could it be

Slugs/snails are almost certainly the problem. They don't alwyas leave trails, so go out at night with a torch (which is when they come out to eat) to confirm.
