Ha ha Susan Giles you have clearly never heard of the nematode invasion force. I bought some of these 3/4 years ago, you water them on twice a year around early summer and midsummer and the little critters are absorbed by the slugs and snails as they slide across them, then the nematodes attach the snails/ slugs from the inside, perfectly safe to birds and other animals. I have lots of Hosta's and now slugs and snails are rare.
You can also get a similar treatment which works in the same way for vine weevils, the little pesky blighters do much more permanent damage I find, so at the moment i at war with the weevils!

I'm very lucky as I discovered yesterday that my mock orange is playing host to loads of ladybirds in all stages of their lifecycle ....... they end up looking so different to how they started out in life, nature is soooooo amazing!!!!!

Not seen any ladybirds here either this year at all. There is a lot of blackfly on everything especially cosmos.
I've seen two ladybirds and they both bit me!

I seem to have literally hundreds of ladybirds and ladybird larvae on my allotment. Very happy!
