Garden Contol
Hi there. I have a barn in France that I am converting and the garden is difficult to keep under control regards to the weeds and nettle plants etc. Also the ivy is clearly on steroids. Can anyone recommend a killer that will kill everything so that I can start from scratch and eventually lay some decent turf?

Gallon of paraffin and a match?
But seriously, folks, glyphosate (such as Roundup) will kill most things when they're growing strongly (so wait till spring) provided you wait a week or two after spraying and don't mind the possibe side effects.

Other than that, a heavy duty strimmer or brushcutter will at least let you get onto the land over the winter to get some work done, then when the stuff starts to grow in the spring you can zap it with poison.
my lips pursed at the question pansyface.
Do you really want a garden or just an 'outside space' ? If you really want a garden I'm sure we would all like to help you
You can tackle the ivy now, pull out as much as you can by hand. Satisfying work on a chilly day! Glyphosate doesn't have much effect on ivy, I've found.
Having just removed about half a ton of ivy from OH's next-door's wall I can agree that it's quite satisfying work and it comes off fairly easily. What you do with ot next is more of a problem, if, like her, you're not allowed to have a bonfire.
