Weird red things...

Hello,

I'm curious about these things I see on certain leaves.

I'm not overly bothered about it, as this is an a 'wild' part of the garden (code for the bit I can't yet be bothered with!), but I wonder what these red things are.

When they get older, they turn into quite big nodules on the leaves - are they beetles?

I've seen them on a hedge leaf too..

They are galls (a reaction from the tree) caused by mites (likely in this case) or sometimes tiny wasps.  They're harmless and there's nothing you can do anyway - it's just nature at work! image

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
