Asparagus

I instituted an asparagus bed nearly four years ago.  The soil has become very compacted, and weeding is a problem because of fear of damaging the plants. Any advice about depth/soil improvement/feeding. Help!

I'd recommend regularly mulching with a layer of multi purpose compost.  This will help stop weed seeds from germinating and the worms will take it down into the soil and so improve it without you having to do anything.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
