Pruning a standard rose

Hi

I need advice on how to prune a standard rose that has now lost its shape.  The main stem grew a separate shoot which at the time I should have pruned to maintain the growth from the top but alas I did not then it was too late!  As a result the standard rose is no longer the compact shape compared to when I bought it and I wondered if there is anything I can do to return it back to its former self without doing any major damage?   All the growth is now on the new shoot and it is producing roses it just looks very straggly now!

Grateful for any advice.

Thank you.
