Help ! when putting my compost onto my beds saw some big fat greyish curved creatures in it  . Are these going to eat my plants?

  • I agree a photograph would be helpful so that we can help identify what they are.

  • Probably illegal immigrants. Eating your plants is the least of your worries.

I hope they weren't vine weevil larvae. http://www.gardenforumhorticulture.co.uk/pestwatch/vine-weevil.htm

Stag beetle larvae are  very big fat and greyish .

    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • Yes - we don't want to recommend squidging something wonderful - we need a photo image

How lucky to have them nearby in your garden if that's what they are - hope you get to see them as they develop properly.

If you can't do a pic , google stag beetle larvae and see if the images look like what you have

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Do they have legs?

Vine weevil larvae don't have legs.

This ID chart might help http://ptes.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Larvae-ID.pdf
