hebe troubles

Good morning everyone.I have 3 Hebe "Donna" in my garden, roughly 4ft away from each other. Two are fine, but the 3rd is not at all well.Over the past few weeks I have noticed that it was dropping some leaves, but yesterday when I looked it has hardly any leaves left and is just stems. These plants were put in this July so it's not an age thing. What could have caused this to happen? It flowered lovely up until recently before the shedding. No chemicals have been used around the plants, and all others around it are fine.

  • Yes the rootballs were soaked and teased apart. It hasnt been any wetter than most areas and the poorly hebe is not over exposed.I had one thought over night and that is the plant in question is at the front garden and we have a few foxes and cats roam during the dark, could it be they have sprayed this particular plant for some reason? Should I trim it right down and see what happens in Spring maybe?

I am assuming that you do not have a mole? If you do and it is the culprit you will find a tunnel beneath the shrub when you dig it out. Moles do not eat any part of plants but the root damage they cause is generally fatal.
