strange shoots on wet leaves

Hello,

Does anyone know what this growth is on these leaves?  I noticed under our Garrya bush that there are shoots of something growing on the damp leaves that have fallen there.  I don't know if it's fungus or something else but it doesn't appear to be growing from the ground, just from the actual fallen leaves.

Any ideas much appreciated!

Could be fairy bonnet fungi. Not an expert though.

  • Wer've got similar all over the places where we spread home-made compost earlier in the year - just some sort of fungi breaking down the organic matter  - it'll disappear when the weather gets cooler.

No idea what sort but I'd be interested if anyone else knows? image

  • Thanks all for your input.

Edd - Thank you, I just looked up the Slender Cup and it's definitely what we've got!

That fungus is amazing!  I studied them (amongst other things) for three years and never came across anything like that.  Nor have I as a gardener, which is, perhaps, slightly more surprising.

Are those green bits bindweed?  If so, I'd have 'em out, soonest!

Didn't know anything about the fungus but I couldn't see anything for the bindweed too Steve...image
