Advice on a nut tree

Hi everyoneimage  what a grey day image not too much gardening today but lots of thinking about it image While skinning almonds for Christmas cakes I wonder how fussy a tree of my own could be . We have a small tree to remove before next spring ( it was restricted in a large buried pot ) because it shed some limbs this year . The spot is in the front garden near a 3ft boundary wall and gets afternoon sun fairly sheltered from any strong winds . What's my chances?image

  • I think they are quite fussy primrosecottage and need a sheltered south-facing spot to do well in the UK.  Even then I doubt they would produce much.  Normally grown just for their very pretty blossom in our climate.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • Yes but the squirrels get most of them from my tree!  I think I'll plant a purple leaved filbert next time, so I'll at least have the leaves left to admire! image
