Just thought I'd trawl this thread up to post this from our local Norfolk newspaper website ... amazing photo

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

Saw a baby adder on Dartmoor a few weeks ago. There is also a small grass snake in my compost heap, along with loads of slow worms. The snake is very timid and always the first to slither away when I lift the layer of carpet that covers the heap.
  • I'm glad I don't . Snakes freak me out, even if they're not poisonous like pythons. Must be some primeval instinct.

I am with fidgetbones on that one, snakes totally freak me out. My hubby is an Aussie, and on one of our walk in the Blue Mountains, I came dangerously close to a red bellied black snake. Without being over dramatic I feel this is the closest I have ever been to death... On the other hand I truly wish I was not that scared of them because they truly are fascinating creatures... anyway beautiful but freaky picture!
