Astrantias

VerdunVerdun Posts: 23,348

Astrantias featured this week on GW...you may have seen me......er Momty.....introduce Carol and her piece on them

I grow a few varieties....this year they are huge. ..they have loved this weather. My latest acquisition last year was a white variety called Jumble Hole and I love it.  However, they all are plants that produce flowers with "gems" in their "faces".  They are flowers to peer into and be dazzled by.

Astrantias.....favourites or not?

oh yes, Verdun. A bit on the dry side for them here but I've found a good place for Hadspen Blood. Some of the lighter ones still need better soil. They wouldn't do in much sun on our soil.

Just got into them. Have some Shaggy's aNd some unnamed red ones.  WW donated some to me last weekend, so looking forward to growing them on.  What are the names of the best pink ones?

all my pinks are seedlings with no names chicky. I bought Hadspen Blood and grew a mix from seed.

I also love them and mine are huge this year. I have Shaggy, Florence a lovely deep red just know as Rubra and another one, may be Roma.

I had to move a Rubra and it just naturally split into 5 a couple of weeks ago. 3 put straight into the garden have taken and the others are potted up and having some tlc.

    Hi

I was so pleased to see Astrantias on Gardener's World - I have just discovered them and am trying desperately to get more as I'm trying to create a 'cottage Garden' and they stand up so well with virtually any other plant - I love 'em
