Autumn leaves

hi all, does anyone have a petrol leaf vacuum?

my friend has a acre garden and is finding it almost impossible to keep the leaves off the lawn we have seen advertised a petrol leaf vacuum but has its rather expensive would like to know if it does the job. Does it pick the leaves up when it's wet? She uses the ride on mower when the grass is dry but finds if she uses this method when the grass and leaves are wet the mower keeps glogling up. She also has a petrol leaf blower but we are getting no younger so can only do it bit by bit.

all help would be appreciated.

Hi chrissy the way I see it, she will have to spend the money if she needs itimage
  • Hi Logan, yes I agree but she doesn't want to spend the money if it doesn't do the job it's supposed to do.

I have one of these but it's far too heavy for me and gets heavier as it picks up wet leaves. Also you have to keep stopping to empty it, then start it again. If investment has to happen I'd go for a mower that will pick up leaves. Ours does but it is sometimes reluctant to let them go again again when I reverse up to the heap. Then I have to get off and do a manual removalimage My default is to leave the leaves, though I do clear most from the 'lawn'

The vac wasn't bought for leaf picking, I've forgotten what it was for.

Chrissy best way with wet leaves is to blow them into corners or piles then Barrow them. Suction is only good for dry leaves. Doesn't matter if it's petrol battery or electric and the bags on the machines are so small you spend more time emptying them than gathering the leaves. It's a slow laborious job it's all I'm doing at the moment as well in 4 different gardens between half and one acre. She has to spend the money and be convinced that the mould is a valuable resource for her garden.
