Sarcoccoa confusa
in Plants
Hi Guys,
I picked up this sarcococca this morning from the dead plants shelf at a diy store. I think it is likely confusa - I dont know these plants at all but the full price ones were labelled thus.

Does anyone suggest I trim or reshape it now or at some point? It has a few bits of new growth at the bottom but two of the stems are very long.
I have a space for it near a seating area because it is supposed to smell nice, this is in an east facing position, morning sun only, heavyish but good soil which seems to be okay from what I just looked up...
Any advice appreciated
Edit: Sorry, just realised I spelt its name wrong

I'd cut the long straggly bits off. They sucker a bit so I think cutting all the tatty stuff off would make it throw up more shoots

Hi Nut
Cut them off at the base? Is this okay to do now?
Hi Vic
I would but see what the proper gardeners think

So you wouldn't plant it out now Verdun?
It's in a 3 litre pot, fits the width but only half the depth...
Victoria that new growth at the base will form a new plant so yes prune back hard. Yes plant it asap it should have a good root system and the soil is still quite warm. Add some root grow and bonemeal to the planting hole. It should get going next spring.
I lifted and hacked one back a while ago Victoria - it wasn't doing well. I potted it up at the time and I've just planted it. We can compare them next year!
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Great stuff, I'll get it snipped and planted tomorrow.
Thanks for your help all
Just saw your post fairy, agreed, we'll see how they do
My poor plant was marked down to 50p and wasn't allowed to hang out with the other box
Want to try and smarten it up
