could it be self sown by a bird perhaps?
I've got a foxglove in flower, it's been a funny old season.

I have a purple verbascum in flower in the front garden. I'd cut down the dead stems and noticed flowers this week.
Nip out and count the petals Jo. Verbascums have five
I'm not entirely happy with verbascum for this one but until I have a better suggestion I'll shut up
Meant to say that I also had a white verbascum like that come up too.
