Bogatyr garlic

in Fruit & veg
Hello all,
Bogatyr garlic (a very spicy, hard-neck variety) seems to be readily available in the US but does anyone know how/if I can obtain some for planting here in the UK?

Thank you Dovefromabove. I contacted the seller that the website listed but they do not stock Bogatyr unfortunately. The search continues.
Oh dear - good luck

Hi Pansyface, thank you for your reply. I did try them- they are on the website that Dovefromabove had kindly provided. They do not stock Bogatyr however, so I am still searching.
Now THAT appeases me Pansyface!!
Thank you! I will be putting in an order... it doesn't seem to store as long as the Bogatyr but let's not be too fussy!
Needs must.
By the way, I have spoken with the Garlic Farm people (very responsive) and they say that Red Duke (http://www.thegarlicfarm.co.uk/product/heritage-red-duke-wight-seed-x-3-bulbs) or Topinky (http://www.thegarlicfarm.co.uk/product/heritage-topinky-wight-seed-x-3-bulbs) would be good alternatives but they are going to try and source Bogatyr, given the interest,
Anomander, thanks for getting back to us with an update - it's really nice when people do that

My pleasure Dovefromabove- sharing and receiving useful information is why we're here.
By way of further update, I ordered the Red Duke variety from Ebay, just to try it out. I will see what the quality is like when it arrives but the Ebay seller is actually cheaper (cost and postage) than the Garlic Farm, AND I ordered it just before noon today and they've already dispatched it, so it appears to be quicker too: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181832930445
My Red Donetsk from the Garlic Farm arrived today and I was just notified that the Carcasonne Wight and Vallelado that I ordered via my allotment association arrived today as well. I have a week-long business trip on Saturday but I will try to stick some in on Saturday morning before I go!
So hello again folks and here's a further update- I had purchased some Bogatyr from the US and the harvest is in! The Bogatyr didn't do very well, I'm afraid.
Perhaps the reason why it's not popular here but it would SEEM (my own analysis) that the winters here just aren't cold enough! I say this based on having read that garlic needs a good cold snap for the bulbs to split. When I dug my Bogatyr, I noticed that they were very immature, had rotted or did not split (one super clove!). In the US, winters can be much colder, as in Siberia, Russia, etc., where this garlic does well.
I had to reap them when I did as all the foliage was gone, mostly due to a terrible outbreak of rust this year at the allotment due to the unusually wet weather- did anyone else notice that their garlic didn't do very well?
On the upside, the Red Donetsk yielded a decent crop! So did the Vallelado, true to form as it is purported to better deal with our wet weather.
Hi Anomander
My garlic was all lying flat when I got back from my hols so I have dug it up and it's now drying off
Agood return from what I planted however some are good size some are small but all will be used for the next twelve months until my next harvest.
Any members got any ideas on what to feed them and when as I have seen bigger bulb returns
My garlic was Solent Wight and I planted last October
happy gardening
