Strange Looking Fruit
in Fruit & veg
Where I work we have a tree that flowered over the summer, and now has produced this very strange fruit that no-one seems to know what it is. Can anyone identify it?

One of the magnolias I think
In the sticks near Peterborough
You're quite right! I've never seen any produce anything like this before but it's quite cool.
It is from a Magnolia!
Looks very much like M ,grandiflora seedpod.
google image
magnolia soulangeana seed pods
and see what you think?
Berghill, sorry to disagree, but grandiflora is evergreen, these leaves look like their showing " Autumn colour" before they drop.
I may well be wrong.
It is a seed pod from Magnolia and I agree with Hostafan NOT grandiflora.
Our grandiflora leaves are in much the same condition as those, but then it is a bit cold here for it.
I did say
Worth saving that seed for the swap.
