Strange Looking Fruit

Where I work we have a tree that flowered over the summer, and now has produced this very strange fruit that no-one seems to know what it is. Can anyone identify it?

  • You're quite right! I've never seen any produce anything like this before but it's quite cool.

Berghill, sorry to disagree, but grandiflora is evergreen, these leaves look like their showing " Autumn colour" before they drop.

    I may well be wrong.

  • It is a seed pod from Magnolia and I agree with Hostafan NOT grandiflora.

Our grandiflora leaves are in much the same condition as those, but then it is a bit cold here for it.
