Photina Red Robin

Is it too late to prune a Photina shrub?  It has got very tall and wide as I keep missing the best time to prune and tell myself I will do it after flowering.  I know I will cut off some of the new bright red shoots but it is too big now.

    It is really best to wait till spring Elizabeth.  Having said that I have just chopped mine right down as it got much too big - it has now two chances.  If you don't want to spoil yours I would wait though or you could risk a very gentle trim now.

    Thank you both for your advice.

    I  think I will take a gamble and cut the part that has gone through the fencing onto the bridle path now and leave the part that is on show to us until the spring.  That way I should find out one way or another.

    I took the gamble too and it paid off.Think it depends on the weather in the coming weeks.

    The weather here is still very mild 22 deg C today, so it will have a chance to recover before we get the really cold weather expected this winter.
