    I once had the council serve me an emergency tree preservation order on an old decrepit pear tree. They were holding work up, so I got their surveyer out. He said it was a walnut tree. No its not, I said. The walnut tree is a sapling over there on the boundary. How do you know its a pear tree, says the surveyor.  Errm, it has pears on every summer. Cue chainsaw. I now have a nice wooden bowl carved from the pear wood trunk.

    You'd think that they would put someone with some knowledge in these jobs, wouldn't you.
