daphne odora aureamarginata

My Daphne is in a large pot, in spring this year (its first) it had flowers for the first time, now all the leaves have fallen off, new leaves come on the tips of the branches then curl up and die, spurs for new leaves further down stems are not producing leaves yet. It is in a shady position, can anyone help please it looks in dire straights or is this normal at this time of year?
