Uses for Coal and Wood Ash

I have a multi fuel burner and wondered if the ash from the wood and coal can be used for anything? The ash isnt mixed so its either smokeless coal or wood ash.

Coal ash can be used for paths, but never for plants.

Wood ash is an excellent source of mostly potash.  I sprinkle it around shrubs sometimes.  The lawn seems to benefit from it too.  Coal ash I don't think is much use for plants.

Based in Sussex, I garden to encourage as many birds to my garden as possible.

Coal ash contains heavy metals no use for anything. Wood ash would go in my compost and well mixed as it can also contain toxics depends on what you are burning. My Son burns chipped would pellets on his farm boiler then puts the ash in with the new horse manure, that takes two years before being used for fertiliser so well washed out by then. I never used fresh ash on plants always mixed it with compost.
