cottage pinks
in Plants
I have just got 10 cottage pinks and trying to work out where to put them.
im thinking in pots dotted around my bonsai area to add lots of summer colour.
what im not sure on is what size pot i should use. 4-5ltre pots?
will just be basic black plastic or silver to match my others
any suggestions please?
thanks

i believe they get to about 35cm high so maybe a similar width?
With any plants .you start off with a pot that is just a little bit bigger than the root then pot on gradually as they fill that particular pot, I don't suppose they will grow much over winter, so start off with probably a four inch as they are only plug plants.
i would keep them in a cold frame or greenhouse for this winter, they are very small to leave out.
if they have that mesh or netting stuff on them remove it, then the roots can grow.
Ill pot in small pots for now until they get going and then pot into 3ltr pots in late spring. Don't want to be going multiple pots.
Just trying to work out what size pot be good compared to the size of plant later
I'm afraid if you buy plug plants, that's pretty much what you have to do at this time of year, as there's little growth going on now. As Verdun says - spring growth is rapid, so they will move a good bit then. They'll be decent enough plants at the end of next summer. Until you get to that point though, you'll need to be patient.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
this will do for now and pot up in late spring hopefully for a good display through summer dotted about the garden
