spiders
You know this brown spotty spiders that you see a lot of this time of year. I was wondering how they manage to span such large distances when they make their web. Do they run along the ground or do they swing or jump or wait for a gust of wind or what?
In London. Keen but lazy.

I think initially they suspend themselves on a thread of silk and wait for a breeze to take them where they want to go, then build on that.
Some brilliant videos here http://www.arkive.org/garden-spider/araneus-diadematus/videos.html

Thanks D followed the link. It's fascinating isn't it? Now I'm wondering how they get the measurements right!

I am terrified of spiders but don't seem to mind the garden ones, they are like little fat old ladies, I can imagine them having knitting circles
I'm not terrified, but I certainly prefer them to be outside
They do look like that - or at least this one did!

It might be in the pellet with the poison or the vessel with the pestle, though
