Well done Lou - you've set the boundaries right away image

However , I still don't think there's any excuse for being directly rude to someone, whatever hardship you've had. She should simply have said 'excuse me, could I talk to you about the trees'.

  • yes, it does go to show that people often have underlying reasons why they are so nasty, but that doesn't mean it is our fault. my neighbour has been awful over the last few years, shall not say what, but the usual stuff ; hedges, mess, children etc. then hubby was reading in the papers and turns out her ex had been murdered and chopped up into little pieces and put in the freezer a couple of years ago

if I had have known all of this, I still would've been my normal self and saying sorry when it wasn't my fault and saying no,it doesn't matter that another football has broken my plants/you've thrown rocks at my dog/bought your son a b,.b.gun to shoot at my dog and birds....

the police got involved at one point. but now we do not speak and their garden is a tip and mine is lovely.id still like to move tho.

Be careful about a Preservation Order. If you are sure this is your 'forever house' OK fine. But if you want to move some people may be put off by having trees they can do nothing with without hassle.

Your neighbour cannot dictate to you if the trees are on your property, whether they like it or not.

We moved to get more space. We have several neighbours ajoining thankfully at a safe distance. In the 10 years we have met all requests to cut down a diseased tree, redo a fence, cut a hedge back.  Prune trees. Not one thank you.

when we had a major problem with a 200 year old tree that collapsed in the storms last winter there was not a single offer of help

sad but I guess that's life nowadays

tidy gardener - you're absolutely right. No matter what their circumstances are, it still doesn't give people the right to take their c**p out on you. Sadly, if you want to move, those manky neighbours could also make it difficult for you to get a buyer  image

I hope that doesn't happen - perhaps they'll move and you'll get someone nice  image
