  • Mines flowered for first time in 5 years! The locals are very jealous as you cannot get it here in Bulgaria!

My layered cutting on the pergola is in flower. The original  plant on the garage wall is not. Mind you it did get murdered two years ago, when half of the apricot it was growing  up died. I think I will need to be a bit more diligent with the new shoots this year.

    Hi Everyone

Im new to all this, but just wanted to say thank you for the advise on wisteria cuttings? My sister wanted a cutting from my wisteria but it looks like it may be better if I grow from seed for her. I have a lovely Wisteria planted one year under my pergoda and flowered the second year

I think you should read it all again.  Seed grown plants may take 20 or more years to produce a flower and it may not be the same as the parent.   A successful cutting will produce flowers in 2 or 3 years.

You can try one or all of 3 methods:-

layering, where you peg a stem to the ground or into a pot of compost and wiat for roots to grow before severing it from the parent and potting on.

soft shoot cuttings in spring to mid summer

    hardwood cuttings in winter

The RHS thinks layering is the most reliable.  See here for more info - https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=173
