They are everywhere and I don't know what to do about them. It would be lovely if they were edible but I am very wary when it comes to fungi. Any experts out there?
Thank you pansy face, I mulched the garden with about four inches of wood chips last winter. Thought it would provide a warm blanket, increase the organic matter and suppress weeds but I seem to have started a mushroom farm!
Can I leave well alone or should I be doing something about it?
Leave them alone - enjoy them as part of the wonderful display that Mother Nature provides at this time of year. They will disappear very soon, won't do any harm, will provide invertebrates with food and will help break down organic matter in your soil and so aid fertility.
They are 'a good thing'.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Good morning Dovefromabove and thank you for your advice. I do enjoy peeking into corners to discover what wonderful fungal landscape has appeared since yesterday so I shall happily leave them to the fairies.
