They usually take longer than a year to flower but now is the time to sow them. They need a chill so leave them outside.

I have always tended to cover mine with perlite. As for flowering; some seem to be biennial and others take longer. Some are monocarpic and some seem to last a few years.

I sowed mine in April this year in the greenhouse.  It took ages for the seedlings to reach a sufficient size to plant out, and none of the 6 plants has flowered.  Those planted in full sun are looking much bigger than those in more shaded positions, but the growth is in spread and not in height.  I assumed they reliably flowered in their first year, so was I gutted earlier in the summer to read I'd probably have to wait until next year for flowers.  I've only ever seen them on the telly, can't wait until they flower.  Good luck with yours!

I feared I would have to wait too long in my eyes for flowers. I mange to add an Angelica plant to my order from woottens before it got dispatched.  Cost similar to a pack of seeds, so I will collect the seeds/seedling next year image
