Hi , Recently moved into new house with beautiful garden but I am very much a novice . When + how much can I prune back a large wild fuchsia . (worried I may destroy it) Any advice much appreciated .
Mine were like that when I came here, cut to about 6 inches from the ground when you see new shoots appear along the stalks, that should be about March/April time.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
A lot of my fuchsias are in positions where they are buffeted by winter winds ....... I reduce their height in the Autumn and then cut right back in the Spring as previously advised.

leave it until Spring then cut to size and it'll bounce back well with a good mulch round the roots and a feed.
Thank you very much for your speedy reply + shall carry on with the weeding in the mean time
