pruning

 Hi , Recently moved into new house with beautiful garden but I am very much a novice . When + how much can I prune back a large wild fuchsia . (worried I may destroy it) Any advice much appreciated .

    leave it until Spring then cut to size and it'll bounce back well with a good mulch round the roots and a feed.

    Yes it will die back to the ground and shoot up from thereimage

    Mine were like that when I came here, cut to about 6 inches from the ground when you see new shoots appear along the stalks, that should be about March/April time.

    Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

    A lot of my fuchsias are in positions where they are buffeted by winter winds ....... I reduce their height in the Autumn and then cut right back in the Spring as previously advised.
