Oleander's Overwintering

Hi. I brought an Oleander to England when I moved back from S W France. I'm living near Nottingham now. It survived in bubble wrap overwinter. I placed it on my sunny patio where it  produced flower buds which have not opened up, otherwise it looks quite healthy. Should I continue to wrap it this winter and what might help its flowers to mature?  Hope there is someone who can help. Regards

You need to wrap the pot in bubble wrap to protect the roots but the plant itself needs ventilation so you should either take it in to a frost free greenhouse, porch or conservatory or wrap it in two or three layers of horticultural fleece which is porous but gives a degree or two of frost protection.

Feeding it with liquid rose or tomato fertiliser once a week from mid spring should encourage the flowers.

Oleander are hardy down to minus 5 or thereabouts. They grow wild in Italy near the mountains but over here are only really summer plants. One of my clients has six all potted and we bring them in once temperatures start to go below freezing and keep them frost free over winter and unwatered till spring comes. So I'd do the same if you can. I'd wrap the pot and the plant if your'e forced to keep it outside.
