I love dark plants and flowers, but it's how you use them that counts. As obelixx says, having a foil of golden foliage, or something bright or variegated, to set these types of plants off is the way to do it. I have dark wood work and golden gravel, so ophiopogon would work well.
That pic of it with the imperata just looks peculiar, and I'd agree with Verd - it would just be a mess long term
I agree with Vic Sponge about calling flowers black - they usually aren't, although Molly Sanderson (viola) is as close as you could get to a black flower, and really pretty
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
