Thuja occidentalis 'Brabant'
Today I had some very large Thuja arrive 5 meter trees. And have a local contractor who I was using the plant them as they were so large. I am located in the north of france and dont speak very good french. I tried explaning that the holes were too deep but he insisted that they would be fine.
My partner does speak french but does not like to get involved in the garden (apart from looking at it)
My query is does it matter if they were planted rather deep will that kill them or will they just start to shoot new roots etc. They were probibly planted just over 1 foot deeper than the original root ball.
Any advice would be great as I have another few to plant next week and wont let him get away with it again if they are going to die.
the plants are not everyones choice but i need something Big green and fast to screen off some old sheds.
Many Thanks
Nicky

I remember reading somewhere that beds/borders should not be built up around the trunks of conifers as it would kill them - this sounds the same sort of thing to me.
Did they plant them so deeply to try to avoid the need for staking such tall trees? Sounds a bad idea to me. Sorry

I also fell its a bad idea especially since I have the pile of stakes which I bought specially for this project also still laying on the ground. I think im going to have to have words with him tomorrow as It just seems stupid to plant them wrong. very annoying.
I think it's the end for the confers unless you sort them out
