Apple tree pruning - water shoots

in Fruit & veg
Here's one for you all: Last winter I pruned all dozen or so oldish apple trees and they've mostly fruited very well. However, several of them have produced a lot of water shoots which I neglected to prune off in June. Is it too late to do it now?
They're James Grieve, Holstein (yum - highly recommended!) and Crispin; all spur-bearers.
