slug psychology

My garden contains lots of places that slugs can live happily. Can anyone explain the large numbers that crawl onto the dry concrete floor of our summerhouse and spend the day dehydrating and then dying

There's about a dozen of them in there some days franco. But then there's  the thousands in the rest of the garden.

Have you tried dropping them in water and seeing if they rehydrate and spring back to life? image

Sounds a bit risky Tim. Though I've heard salt water and slugs go well together
