Whitefly on Phlox

image

My friend has recently planted some phlox, and noticed some holes and damage to the leaves. She noticed a whitefly on a leaf today (pictured), and has asked for any advice with getting rid of the pests. She has 2 cats, so is not keen on chemical methods that may be harmful to her pets.

Can anyone help with some ideas? Thank you!

Personally I wouldn't have any worries at all. Phlox are coming to the end now  and leaf discolouration is a sign that the plant is retiring for the year. I'd cut it back to ground level over winter. A lot of plants not usually affected by green/whitefly are being sought out by bugs for a last source of food before winter.

I agree with Dave - nothing to worry about at this time of year image

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
