How to grow Pyracanthus from seed

Posts

  • Much easier to take cuttings, they take easily. Seeds require cold treatment, and if you are taking them from berries, they may not come true.

But if you like the excitement of growing from seed, Catherine is right, they need cold treatment. Sow them now in good well drained compost and leave them outside til they germinate. Don't be tempted to protect or use heat.

  • I also like growing from seed, it is a wee miracle that a large plant comes from a tiny seed. I once waited for months for palm seeds to germinate, to no avail, so I prefer seeds that germinate within a month. Of course I mentioned recently that I had been sold tomato seeds instead of hibiscus, so it is possible that what I sowed were actually stones. They say that there's one born every minute, and that appears to have been me. image  Gardening is definitely a new experience every day.

  • I also like taking cuttings, it's a thrill if they take. I used to be the world's most impatient person, but gardening has helped enormously. There is a limit, however, Nut!
