Pics of wild flower verges along roads

On the stretch between Newhaven and Peacehaven they have had the most lovely wild flowers growing. Last year I didn't get to take pics till late in season. This year I want to take pics to show all the lovely views. Would be great if others took pics where there are such roadsides near them-the  last pic is an example of what I assume are poppies getting ready to flower

    Nice pictures Bev,

I toured Colorado State in USA back in 1991 and having a keen interest in photograpy I made a point of taking pictures of all the different roadside flowers as a holiday project. In those days there was no such thing as digital cameras so I was using film (transparency slides) which I don't have the facility to digitise. John H

Lovely pics Bev. What do you think the mauve one in 4 is?

John my BIL is a keen diver and photographer and had loads of slides. I'm sure he has transferred some or may know how to. I will see if I can find out for you. image

    Lovely pix Bev!

Hollie I think some councils have started programmes whereby only parts of the verges are cut. I'm sure it was discussed on Jeremy Vine show (radio 2) last year because motorists were complaining that they couldn't see because of the height of grass etc....image

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Verges should be cut once a year only as far as i`m concerned, it`s good for wildlife and therefore good for your garden, think bees, lacewings, moths, butterflies etc. Is it really that important to have a neat, perfect boring grassy verge?

  • The pics were taken today- I took loads more but just chose a few for on here.

  • They were ox eyed dasies I think- quite large as well as normal little ones. Afraid I don't know what most of the plants were.

You're right Fred- it may be different up here too. I've noticed they cut the verges less often and not the whole verge either. That way it should keep everyone happy...in theory image

I think with all the cutbacks it probably suits councils too!

They have just cut all the verges around here; I thought when I saw it happening, what a strange time of year to do it, but I guess they want to do it before the plants set seed and all fly into the fields and gardens. But they have not cut the whole depth of the verge which is a good thing.
