Lovely red leaves

I love this plant. I wonder which plant is as we would like to plant it?

Thanks a lot,

Ed.

Parthenocissus quinquefolia aka virginia creeper. It goes this colour at this time of year, before all the leaves fall off. They are green earlier on in the year.

  • Thank you very much for your quick answer!

It is very pretty at this time of year yes. Thanks again, will look into it and plant it for next year.

Agree with fidgetbones about it being PQ, before you buy I suggest you also have a look at Parthenocissus Tricuspidata Veitchii, boston ivy. Bigger leaves but same stunning colour.

    Devon.
  • I see what you mean Hostafan1. Boston Ivy is very similar. Another plant to consider indeed. Thank you.

Be careful if you plant Virginia Creeper, it can be really rampant, almost a pest. Can't get rid of mine.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Beat me to it, I was about to warn about its rampant growth.

Boston Ivy grows along a very old wall next to my house, it is absolutely gorgeous at this time of the year.

I cut mine down to about 3 feet after the leaves drop and it stills grows to about 10 feet the next year.

Boston Ivy is also very vigorous. There was a building next to Stockport Council Office that had a Boston Ivy that reached the sixth floor, about 80 ft high.
