can I turn a climbing rose into a bush?

Erica68Erica68 Posts: 65

Hello

Two years ago I was given a Gertrude Jekyll rose, a climber,

Last year I bought three rose bushes and all are doing well.

But I wish the climbing rose were a bush as it would suit the garden better.

Is there any way I can make it bushy without hurting it?

Gertrude Jekyll can be used as a small climber or kept as a bush... you just take out the long shoots that it will throw up here and there... it won't hurt it... but it's thorns might hurt you...image

Thank you Salino, yes the thorns are very sharp.

My other three "rose" bushes are Kew and they have no throns but they are not true roses.
